Fresh Routes partners with Calgary Foundation and The Arusha Centre to fight food insecurity

  • News

We are excited to announce our partnership with Calgary Foundation and The Arusha Centre

In Calgary, one in eight Canadian households is food insecure, meaning they don’t have reliable access to affordable and nutritious food. This is a problem that disproportionately affects low-income families, single parents, Indigenous, newcomers, and people with disabilities.

There are several reasons why food insecurity exists in Calgary. For many people, low incomes make it difficult to afford healthy food. Others may not have the skills or knowledge to cook healthy meals. And some may not have access to a grocery store or food bank. Whatever the reason, food insecurity is a real and pressing issue in our city. It’s time we all work together to find solutions.

This new partnership will allow Fresh Routes to keep food prices lower between 25% to 35% than regular markets, continue fighting hunger and improve food security in Calgary. Also, through the partnership Fresh Routes will accept 100% Calgary Dollars and bring our Mobile Grocery Store to 2-4 new communities were accessing food is difficult due to barriers such as transportation and income.
